The BGG is
the alumni association of the graduates in Germanic languages and literature
of Ghent University. The Germanic languages taught to degree
level in the Faculty of Arts and Philosophy
are: Dutch, English, German and Swedish.
The BGG was officially founded in 1932 and its aims are:
+ to promote contact between alumni, and between staff and alumni
+ to contribute to graduates’ lifelong learning by:
-
singling out relevant new publications and training opportunities,
-
reporting on new developments in the fields of linguistics, literature and
language teaching,
-
selecting and recommending cultural activities.
The BGG organizes a number of events, the foremost of which is the annual
meeting, traditionally held on a Saturday in November. One or more speakers are invited to this
event and it is also the occasion for reunions of specific years.
Members receive a bi-monthly Newsletter,
in paper form as well as electronically.
In addition, they get one issue in the Spieghel Historiael
series per year. This annual volume has since 2003 been incorporated within the Faculty’s
Studia Germanica Gandensia series.
The annual membership fee is currently EUR 15.
Supporting Members pay a minimum contribution of EUR 20 per year.
